WALTER PAYTON TO BE
MEMORIALIZED AT JACKSON STATE AND AT OTHER SWAC SCHOOLS -

During his collegiate years at
JSU
from 1971-74, [ Walter] Payton was one the most
electrifying ballcarriers in the nation. He finished his college
career with 584 carries for 3,563 yards and 66 touchdowns. He
ranks No.4 on the Southwestern Athletic Conference's all-time
rushing chart. Payton, a 1974 graduate of Jackson State, died on
Monday, November 1 at his home near Chicago, Ill. after
suffering from a rare form of liver disease. He was 45. Photo

2003-04 Miss Winston-Salem State Senior
Mignon Turner, a double major in Spanish and Mass Communication,
was crown the first Miss CIAA in 2004. Mignon was a
member of the WSSU cheerleader squad who in addition to devoting
time to her studies and cheerleading volunteered to server as an
interpreter for the courts in cases involving defendants who
native language was Spanish. Volunteer work which may have
helped her acquire her current employment as diplomat for the
United State in Mexico.
Miss
Tiffany Turner, sister of Mignon and Miss Winston-Salem State 2006-07, a
senior on the 2006-07 cheer squad, a volunteer, and a
Molecular Biology major from Burlington, N C heads
to Brazil to conduct cancer research through a
Biomedical Exchange program with Wake Forest. See Sports

origin or gender.
